Parent Events in September

The Senior Phase and Higher Education Team are now organizing two parent events for Year 12 - 13 parents this September. We are so happy to see many of you have signed up for these events already and keep in touch with us! We will be sharing a lot of useful information that are beneficial for you to support your kids. A recording will also be sent to parents after the event. See you on Zoom!


What's on at Island School...

[New] Important!!! Online University Webinars and Virtual Visits

Since we are not able to organize Island School University Fair due to COVID-19 this year, we are now cooperating with other ESF Schools to arrange a series of online webinars to all ESF students.

[New] Year 13 ISPTA & HE Parent Coffee Morning

The HE Team would like to invite Year 13 Parents to the ISPTA & HE Parents Coffee Morning on Tuesday 15th September from 8.30am to 9.30am by Zoom.


The Coffee Morning will focus on Higher Education issues. You will have the chance to talk to our HE Counsellors, ask questions about university choices, applications, etc. If you are interested to join, please sign up via the link on email invitation.


[New] Year 13 Higher Education Workshop (US Focused)

On Friday 21st and 28th August, Mr. Dakaj has arranged two Higher Education Workshops for Year 13 students and parents. During the first HE Workshop, Mr. Dakaj shared an overview of higher education in the United States for both students and parents, including information for guiding you through the university planning process.


And during the second HE Workshop, he talked about the university search process in the US and explore avenues for identifying "best fit" based on the following: Institutional size, classification of universities, setting, applicant demographics across US regions, institutional selectivity and academic fit.

Year 12 & 13 Parent Information Evening

On Wednesday 2nd September, the Senior Phase and Higher Education Team will organize Year 12 & 13 Parents Information Evening via Zoom at 5.30pm (Year 13) and 6.15pm (Year 12). Recording will be shared after the event. Please register via the link on the email invitation.


Higher Education Website and Social Media

This year we have a newly designed Higher Education Website. Please check this website frequently for the resources. Although we will send out this Vision Newsletter every 2 weeks, but all latest information will be posted to the website regularly. You may login to ISLE > Students > Higher Education or check this page for the instructions. This is for Island School internal use so students and parents are

required to login with your gmail account.

[New] NACAC Upcoming Virtual College Fairs

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is going to host four virtual college fairs in September to November.

Sunday 18th October 12.00pm - 8.00pm EDT

Asia Virtual Fair is an official online event that connects you to top universities all over the world. Not familiar with an online fair? There is no need to overcomplicate it. Here is what you can expect from this event:

  • The Student World Virtual Fair is an online event where you can talk via audio/video with admission directors from top international universities and with government agencies.

  • It takes place in an amazing digital platform created by our team.

  • Once inside the platform, you can search for universities based on your preferences, visit their digital booths to get detail information and chat face to face with their directors.

  • All that, from the comfort of your home.

  • From Monday 14 Septemberto Sunday 20 September, attendees will be able to access pre-recorded presentations about our courses, Colleges, the application process, and student life. These presentations are hosted on our brand new Virtual Tour platform.

  • On Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in live Q&A sessions with current students and staff. This includes one regional Q&A session specifically for students from Asia and Australasia. 

  • International students in Year 10/Grade 9 (or equivalent) and above, plus their teachers or guidance counsellors, are very welcome to attend. To book a place, please click here.

As it is currently difficult to talk to you face-to-face about your future plans, Radboud has thought of other ways in which we can provide assistance:

  • Students can chat with our current students via this link

  • Students can join our virtual open days or webinars via this link

  • We can arrange one-to-one video calls or virtual presentations upon request

  • We created an online information package that can be used during counseling hours; see below

[New] US - Boston University Trustee Scholarship

For more than four decades, the Boston University Trustee Scholars Program has attracted students with outstanding academic ability from around the world. Trustee Scholars rank at the top of their classes and demonstrate exceptional leadership in their schools and communities. Scholarship recipients are selected by a faculty committee from a competitive pool of applicants after rigorous review. The Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years. 


The University encourages you to apply for the Trustee Scholarship. To be considered, students must submit their application for admission with one Trustee Scholarship essay by December 1, 2020. More information about the Trustee Scholarship can be found on the website

[New] US - Claremont McKenna College International Student Panels

Claremont McKenna College is now hosting current student panels for international prospective students! These panels are a great opportunity for your students to interact with our current international students and hear about their experiences at CMC. If you are specifically interested in CMC or just generally interested in liberal arts and sciences colleges, this is your time to learn more about the student experience at a top ten, residential liberal arts college.


Throughout the fall we are hosting regional sessions for China, India, Europe, Middle East & Africa, South East Asia, Latin America and more. Your students will have the opportunity to ask questions specific to their experiences, needs, and expectations for college. Students can register for our international current student panels here. [New] US - Haverford College - Virtual Program

Haverford would like to share with you some information about their program - AOCC Program: Meet Our Black Squirrels on September 12 or October 3. The Athletes of Color Coalition (AOCC) is hosting this virtual program for high school students interested in playing a varsity sport in college. Participants will meet with coaches, hear from current student-athletes, and speak with alumni about diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Haverford athletics department and learn more about what it would be like to play for the Haverford Black Squirrels.


US - University of Chicago - Neubauer College Week

UChicago is celebrating Neubauer College Week, a series of events that will provide college search resources and celebrate all the hard work you do! Join UChicago and our partners as we explore the ins and outs of the college admissions process.

  • Wednesday, 2nd September from 7–8:00 p.m. CDT: Essay Writing Workshop. Learn about college essays with Veronica Hauad, Deputy Director for Access, Affordability, and Inclusion. 

  • Thursday, 3rd September from 7–8 p.m. CDT.: Explorando Universidades. Learn about a variety of institutions, including Florida State University, St. Mary’s University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago, through a Spanish language panel.

  • Friday, 4th September from 7–8 p.m. CDT: Diversity in the City of Chicago. Join admissions counselors as they highlight a number of Chicago’s great neighborhoods and identify some of their must sees!
